While most people would think it absurd to actually insure body parts and functions, many famous folks find it an absolute necessity. Performers of all kinds depend on a particular part of their physique to make a living, so it only makes sense for these famous people to insure that asset against loss.
Famous People - Legs Insured for Form and Function
In what is considered one of the largest personal insurance policies in sports history, David Beckham has had his legs insured for $195 million. Dave's not the only one who thinks his legs are of extreme value, Heidi Klum has also insured her lower extremities, but her legs are apparently only worth $2 million. I guess it depends on who you ask. Heidi claims her left leg is not quite as pricey because it carries a small scar from a minor childhood injury.
Oral Insurance
If you depend on your mouth to bring home the bacon, it is only prudent to have it insured. The Boss man himself, Bruce Springsteen, went to Lloyd's of London to insure against the loss of his voice. The $6 million dollar policy may not appease the loss felt by his fans, but it reassures the Boss that he will not go hungry if his voice goes. Famous people who market their fame into commercial product sales are often insured by the company they represent. For example, America Ferrera's smile was insured by Aquafresh for $10 million. The Ugly Betty star says, " I try my hardest to take care of it." That multitude of millions gives a whole new meaning to "say cheese."
Not to be outdone, KISS frontman Gene Simmons, has had his forever famous tongue, supposedly measured to be 7 inches long, insured for a cool million.
Treasured Chests
Proud of her pom poms, Peepshow star Holly Madison, has had her breasts insured for $1 million. She claims they are her major money makers and worth every penny. Then the country western diva whose famous chest front never goes out of style or popularity, Dolly Parton's famous figure is insured for $600 thousand.
Insured Head Hair?
Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Palamalu is famous for his lustrous locks and Proctor and Gamble thinks the safety's stylish mop is worth a million dollars. Troy is the pitchman for the company's Head and Shoulders shampoo. Jennifer Lopez also feels her mane is worth millions, and so does Lloyds of London, they have insured her hair for $50 million. She's also had her breasts insured for untold millions.
